SMOLT Revolver 6inch HW Ver.3 Square butt
The S&W 357 magnum revolver of the 1970s did not have an under-barrel weighted (full-lug) model, and the Colt Python, a competitor, had a more accurately machined barrel, and the increased under-lug weight reduced the bounce when fired. The Python is also originally rated as having superior straight-line stability because of its more effective rifling, which gives a stronger rotation to the warhead. However, while the Python's trigger action was smooth, it was difficult to grasp the moment when the hammer fell, while S&W's action was considered advantageous for trigger control. The S&W action, on the other hand, was considered to have an advantage in trigger control, so gunsmiths combined the advantages of both to create the "Smolt," the ultimate hybrid revolver.
Bill Davis of California is particularly well known for his elaborate early work that locked the tip of the ejector rod in addition to the common type with a locking ball in the yoke, which is very rare and popular.
This model was also a custom model, which was produced by bringing in a S&W K-frame revolver as a base and specifying the length of the Python barrel. Our previous Smolt model was based on a round butt K-frame. However, we received requests from old fans who wanted a square butt model as well, so we produced a square butt type smolt. Not content with just changing the frame, we changed to a wide hammer and a wide trigger, and installed an oversized grip to give it a classic image of the past.
The K-frame Ver. 3 mechanism is a smooth and controllable SW action model gun.
(*The gun has been known as SMYTHSON in Japan, but in the U.S. it has been called SMOLT, which is a combination of the manufacturer's name. (The model name has been changed to SMOLT with the latest Ver. 3 release.)
